I am writing to let you know that if you are in receipt of certain benefits you can claim free school meals for your child. This is known as Pupil Premium funding.
Claiming free school meals helps the school obtain additional funding to support your child’s learning, even if you don’t wish your children to have the meals. The Department for Education has recently issued a report that tells us there has been significant under claiming across Suffolk. Additional pupil premium funds would make a huge difference to the school, as it would enable us to buy additional resources (including IT equipment), help us to fund school visits, pay for outside visitors to come into school and help towards employing staff within school to provide additional support in classrooms.
How does it work?
First, check if you qualify – it is not just those who are unemployed, please look at the list below.
If you want your child to have a free, healthy school meal at lunchtime this will save you more than £500 per year.
If you don’t want your child to have school meals, you could still register your child and he/she can continue with packed lunches as usual – but the school will still get the additional funding. He/she will also be able to have a school meal on any particular day if they choose to do so.
Please note that no-one will know you have registered and it will not affect any other benefits you are claiming. All information shared with the school office is dealt with in confidence. At lunchtime there is no distinction between those who pay and those who do not.
So, do you qualify?
You can register your child for Free School Meals if you are in receipt of the following:
Registering is really quick and easy – and you can do this in a number of ways:
Please help us to claim the money that the school is entitled to receive.
